What Is Reiki?
The word Reiki (pronounced Ray Key) means 'Universal Life Force Energy'. This is the energy of Life itself – the system that supports all living things. There is an abundant supply of this energy all around us and, when we are in excellent health, it flows powerfully through the body. But in times of stress this energy is slowed down or restricted. This is when we begin to feel out of sorts, to develop illnesses and painful conditions, reducing our ability to allow this energetic flow through our body’s systems.
A Reiki Treatment
A Reiki practitioner has been ‘attuned’ to allow their own energetic system to receive a greatly increased flow of this life force energy. They have only to place their hands on their client for this energy to flow through them and to the client. The client is usually lying on a comfortable couch, but could choose to sit if they prefer.
Receiving Reiki can be likened to recharging a battery. When a battery is low, it doesn’t function well. And neither do you! Recharged, the battery (and you, too) functions again. Reiki works in much the same way. When you are suffering an illness (mental, physical or emotional), or when you are timed and worried, your energy supply is reduced, adding to your problems. Reiki works to assist you in bringing your energy back to its perfect natural flow, enhancing your body’s own natural healing powers. Reiki treats the whole person, not just the symptoms.
What does Reiki energy feel like?
It feels wonderful! As the energy begins to find its way along the Meridian lines (your body’s natural energy circuit) you may feel warmth or tingling – but most of all you will feel peaceful relaxation and inner calm. You remain fully clothed throughout, yet this intelligent energy knows just where in your body it is most needed. A full treatment last from 75 – 90 minutes.
Tremendous healing power
The technique of Reiki is simple and highly effective and can be used to a wide range of problems. Reiki works on al levels of our mind, body and spirit. It can -
- ease tensions and reduce pain; increase the flow of energy within the body, clearing blockages and detoxifying cells
- bring clarity of thought, improving concentration and the ability to put our lives into perspective
- bring to the surface long hidden negative thought patterns and limiting beliefs that have may have held you back, giving confidence to transform them
- gently guide us to our life’s purpose and what we are ultimately seeking - good health, happiness and unconditional love
Every Reiki Practitioner experiences tremendous healing in their clients and will have their own stories of remarkable healings in everyday situations. For instance, wounds heal so much faster when given Reiki, broken bones heal more quickly (so much so that one must never give Reiki until the bone is set), recovery from surgery is swifter, even strong pain can be eliminated.
Reiki received celebrity approval a while ago when the Daily Mail carried the story of Lord of the Dance star, Michael Flatley, who turned to alternative therapies after a dire prognosis when he sustained a bad injury. Michael Flatley said, "Doctors said I couldn't dance for 60 days. But Reiki healed me in just four." He continued, "For me, the evidence speaks for itself. Healing helps me to overcome many injuries in a short space of time, which conventional medicine just cannot do."
‘Miracles’ can happen
When something unexpected happens it is often easy for the sufferer to call it a ‘miracle’. Rita remembers the surprise and disbelief of colleagues when she was able to relieve their neck and shoulder pain in just a few minutes (they wanted to know where she kept her broomstick!). On another occasion a guest in a hotel she was visiting arrived, after hours of sitting on a plane, with severe pain in his right hip caused by a displaced sacro-ileac joint. He never really understood how, just by placing her hands around his auric field (he could not lie down at the time), Rita was able to heal this completely.
Sometimes healing does appear to be miraculous, as in the case of another person who had been confined to a wheelchair for some time with Multiple Sclerosis. Yet, having received Reiki healing from Rita, she was able to get out of her chair and make her astonished husband a cup of tea when he returned shortly afterwards. Later that evening this lady got her wish, and went out to the Theatre without needing her wheelchair. A miracle? No - just one of the wonderful things that can happen when the body’s own healing resources get that extra boost of Reiki energy. Reiki for Life
Many people with busy and stressful lives have found that a regular Reiki treatment is a great help in keeping them balanced and healthy. You don’t have to wait until you are ill, or out of sorts, Reiki can help you to feel good at any time.
Reiki works on all living things. Plants perk up and let you see how pleased they are, it is very calming and beneficial for children, and animals respond with great appreciation.
The marvellous thing about Reiki is that anyone can learn it. In just two days you can learn how to use this remarkable natural healing force, and become attuned to the First Degree of Reiki (there are three levels to Mastery). Reiki is perfect for self-treatment as well as helping others. It is a great way to counteract stress and you only need to place your hands on yourself to start the process of the energy flowing. Reiki combines well with other complementary therapies such as hypnotherapy, reflexology, homeopathy and aromatherapy. To find out more about training in Reiki Click here
